Frequently asked questions

How can we help?

  • Are the bowls vegan?
Our bowls are almost vegan. We use tofu in our mayonnaise instead of eggs, and no dairy products. We do however, use honey in a few of our dressings as it is rich in antioxidants and can support gut health.
  • Do I need to take supplements if I eat a healthy diet?
Many of the foods we eat today are low in essential minerals and vitamins due to intensive modern farming methods, rendering the soil depleted of many minerals. Food processing destroys many of the nutrients present naturally in the food. Everyones specific needs are dependent on individual lifestyle demands, efficiency of an individuals digestion, absorption of nutrients and individual biochemistry.
  • What supplements should I take?
Knowing what supplement to take, when, how much and for how long is best ascertained by a trained nutritionist or Functional Medicine Practitioner as we are all bio-individual. It is important to resolve the root of the problem/health issue, rather than take a supplement for what you hope might resolve a symptom that you think a supplement "should" help with.
  • How do I find a reputable nutritionist?
You can find a registered dietician through your GP who will be registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC). Dieticians and nutritionists work in a variety of environments including NHS, private practice, industry, education, research, sport, etc. At present, the term nutritionist is not protected by the Health Professionals Council and so it is less precise. Properly qualified nutritionists provide evidence-based information and guidance about the impacts of food and nutrition on health and well-being. Association for Nutrition (AfN) is the professional body for qualified nutritionists who will have graduated from an AfN accredited degree course as Associate Nutritionists through to Registered Public Health Nutritionists.
  • Are genes important for health?
Some diseases are genetically induced. However, lots of diseases affecting us today have a very strong environmental component (unbalanced diet, stress, exposure to toxins). Our way of life, the quality of foods we eat, radiation exposure from different sources can all be modified, therefore, environmental factors are huge drivers of disease. i.e. foods/toxins/air/alcohol/lifestyle/stress/emotions and should be monitored for good health.
  • Is it true that the brain is 60% fat?
Yes it is. It's also relevant that every cell in our body has a phospholipid membrane that needs to be kept healthy to allow easy passage of molecules such as nutrients, gases and water. Therefore, good fat in our diet is extremely important.
